How to Make Matar Chaat – This is one of the most famous street food you will find in Delhi. Matar is not really green peas but dry white peas.
A very quick and Tasty Chaat recipe. Serve with Kulcha bread (Dhaba Style Recipe Coming Soon) !!
Matar Chaat Recipe – Delhi Style !!

Ingredients
To Cook in Pressure Cooker
- Matar / Dry White Peas - 1 Cup
- Salt - 1 Tsp
- Water - 1.5 Cups
For Tamarind Water
- Tamarind Paste - 1 Tbsp
- Warm Water - 1/3 Cup
To Make Chaat
- Onions - 1/3 Cup Finely Chopped
- Tomatoes - 1/4 Cup
- Green Chillies - 3
- Ginger - 1 Inch Julienned
- Cilantro - 5 Tbsp
- Kala Namak / Black Salt - 2 Tsp
- Chaat Masala - 1/2 Tsp
- Roasted Cumin Powder - 3 Tsp
- Red Chilli Powder - 1/2 Tsp
- Lemon Juice - 1.5 Tbsp
Instructions
- Soak Matar in 3 to 4 cups water for 7 to 8 hours.
- Rinse and wash the soaked Matar properly.
- Add the Matar to a pressure Cooker.
- Add Salt, Water and Mix.
- Cook for 4 to 5 whistles if using big cooker or 6 to 8 whistles if using small cooker.
- Let the cooker depressuirse on its own.
- Open the cooker and make sure Matar are cooked properly.
- Mash some matar If there is some water left then cook the beans with cooker open till the water is soaked.
Tamarind Water
- Add Tamarind Paste to warm Water.
- Mix it together till the color of water changes.
- Take a Tea strainer and strain the liquid in another bowl while mashing the Tamarind in the strainer.
- Do this process 3 times.
Assembling Chaat
- In a big tall bowl take the boiled matar.
- Add Onions, Tomatoes, Green Chillies, Ginger, Cilantro, Kala Namak, Roasted Cumin Powder, Chaat masala, Red chilli powder , Lemon juice and Tamarind Water - 3 Tbsp.
- Mix Everything well while mashing some beans.
- Serve with Kulcha!!
