Ingredients
- Sooji - 1 Cup
- Ghee / Clarified Butter or Oil - 2 Tbsp
- Rai / Mustard Seeds - 2 Tsp
- Urad Dal / Split & Dehusked Black Gram - 1.5 Tsp
- Chana Dal / Yellow Split Peas - 1.5 Tsp
- Cashews - 10 to 12 Chopped
- Onion - 1.2 Cup Finely Chopped
- Green Chillies - 4
- Ginger - 1/2 Inch Finely Grated
- Dry Red Chillies - 2 Broken
- Water - 2.5 Cups
- Salt - 1.5 Tsp
- Lemon - According to Taste
- Cilantro - 1 Tbsp
Instructions
Dry Roast Rava / Sooji
- Take a dry pan on medium heat.
- Add Sooji/ Rava and Dry roast for 2 to 3 minutes.
Upma
- In a big pan on medium to high heat, add Ghee.
- Once Ghee is heated add Mustard Seeds.
- Once Mustard Seeds start to pop add Urad Dal and Chana Dal.
- Cook till the Dal's starts to turn brown.
- Now add Cahews and cook till they get golden.
- Add Onion Green Chillies and Cook till onions are translucent.
- Add Ginger, Dry Red Chillies and Chopped Curry Leaves.
- Cook till raw aroma of ginger disappears.
- Now Add Water, Salt and Mix well.
- Once Water Starts to Bubble add 1/4th of Sooji/Rava.
- Mix well.
- Now add some more Sooji and Mix. Do this till all the Sooji is added to the Pan.
- This is done in parts so the Sooji can absorb water Properly.
- Cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Now cover the pan with a lid and lower the flame to low.
- Cook for another 2 to 3 Minutes.
- Before Serving Add lemon juice and Cilantro
